ZEE5 announces premiere of ‘Maurh’

Helmed by Jatinder Mauhar and produced by Rhythm Boyz and Naad Studios, the historical drama will premiere on July 21

ZEE5 Global, the world’s largest streaming platform for South Adian content has announced the world digital premiere of its latest Punjabi offering, Maurh, which stars Ammy Virk, Dev Kharoud, Vikramjeet Virk, Amiek Virk, Naiqra Kaur and Kuljinder Sidhu in pivotal roles.‌‌

Helmed by Jatinder Mauhar and produced by Rhythm Boyz and Naad Studios, the historical drama will premiere on July 21 exclusively on the platform. According to a release the film will also be available in Hindi.‌‌

Set in the pre-partition era of Punjab, the plot revolves around the life of Jeona Maurh, a colonial Punjabi villager who took up the pistol to avenge his bandit brother Kishna’s death. Jeona is determined to demolish the exploitative land tax mafia, which works with the Indian monarchs and Britishers to impoverish the people, as well as Dogar, another thief who betrayed Kishna.‌‌

Maurh explores the socio-political landscape of Punjab during British colonial rule capturing their dreams, struggles and emotions. “The film masterfully captures the various dynamics that played out during the British colonial rule in Punjab and is an emotional and cinematic journey through that era. The movie’s availability in Hindi will further allow this unique story to reach a greater number of global viewers,” Archana Anand, chief business officer, ZEE5 Global, said.
