India’s Suthirtha and Ayhika win gold at WTT contender 2023

They won against Japan and became the first Indian paddlers to secure a gold at the championship this year

Indian table tennis players Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee clinched gold at the WTT Contender Tunis 2023 women's doubles championship on June 25, at the Sports Hall of Rades in Tunisia.

Sutirtha and Ayhika won the match 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11) against Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto of Japan. They became the first Indian table tennis players to win a WTT Contender championship this year.

The duo defeated top seeds and silver medalists from the global championships Shin Yubin and Jeon Ji-hee of the Republic of Korea in the semifinals to advance to the gold-medal match.

Sutirtha and Ayhika defeated Amy Wang and Rachel Sung of the USA in the first round before eliminating Chinese Taipei's Chen Szu-Yu and Huang Yi-Hua, the bronze medalists from the 2022 world championships.
