An 18-year-old Indian student studying in Sydney, Australia is scheduled to make his third appearance in court after being charged with multiple offences following his alleged involvement in a road accident on May 18, 2023, that injured several pedestrians.

According to police, Vansh Khanna, a student of Macquarie University, allegedly jumped a red light and rammed his car, a Honda Accord, into three pedestrians – one aged 13 and two aged 12 while they were crossing the roadway whilst facing a green pedestrian signal at 3:30 p.m. local time. The incident happened at an intersection in the suburb of Crows Nest, New South Wales.

NSW Ambulance paramedics responded to the scene and provided first aid following which the older boy was transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other two boys were taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Half an hour after the crash, Khanna was arrested, his vehicle was seized and sent for mechanical and forensic examination, and the police handed him a license suspension notice. He faces charges of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving, causing bodily harm, failure to stop and assist after impact and proceeding through a red traffic light.

Khanna was initially refused bail following his first appearance at Manly Court following the crash. He reappeared in court on May 19 where he was granted a conditional bail. His  next appearance in court is on June 8.
