India-France partnership at Bastille Day Parade

India-France Strategic Partnership's 25th Anniversary was commemorated by the Tri-Service contingent's participation in the parade

On the occasion of Bastille Day, the French National Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the national parade as the Guest of Honour at the invitation of Emmanuel Macron, President of France, on the Champs-Élysées on 14 July 2023.

“A giant in world history, with a decisive role to play in the future, a strategic partner, a friend. We are proud to welcome India as our guest of honour at the 14 July parade,” Macron tweeted on greeting PM Modi at the parade.

A 241 member tri-services Indian military contingent led by a military band participated in the Parade, to mark the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership. The Indian Army contingent was led by the Punjab Regiment, along with the Rajputana Rifles Regiment.

Additionally, Rafale jets of the Indian Air Force's 101 Squadron took part in the fly past during the parade. On the Indian participation, Macron tweeted, “This 14 July, soldiers and Rafale aircraft from India are marching and flying alongside our troops. We honour the memory of those who fought with the French in the First World War. We shall never forget.”

Modi expressed gratitude to France for being a strong and trusted partner for 1.4 billion Indians. The Bastille Day, or French National Day commemorates the historic storming of the Bastille prison during the French Revolution in 1789. The day symbolizes French ‘Liberty, Equality and Fraternity’,
