Satwik and Chirag beat the world champions 21-17, 21-18 to become the first ever Indians to lift a Super 1000 title.
Indian badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, created history as they became the first Indian duo to win a Super 1000 championship, by clinching the men's doubles title of the Indonesian Open Badminton 2023.
They defeated reigning world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yika, from Malaysia by a score of 21-17, 21-18 to achieve the title. The Indian pair previously won a gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the world championships.
Earlier, the 2022 world championships bronze medallists had become the first-ever Indian pair to reach the final of any Super 1000 tournament after a sensational comeback to get the better of the Korean combination of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae 17-21, 21-19 21-18 in a thrilling semi-final.
Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, took to his official Twitter handle to congratulate the Indian duo and wish them the best for the Paris Olympics 2024.
