UK International Trade Minister Nigel Huddleston met Indian business tycoons and a several government officials during his three-day visit to Kolkata, India, earlier this month. The visit was aimed at unlocking more opportunities for British companies to grow trade and expand businesses in India.

Huddleston visited Jorasanko Thakurbari, Rabindranath Tagore's house and garlanded his statue. He met the chairman of ITC Corporation, Sanjiv Puri; and the chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group, Sanjiv Goenka. The minister also met former West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra and reaffirmed UK's commitment to bolstering economic growth.

The Minister expressed UK’s eagerness to work with both countries on shared challenges like climate change, using our collective expertise to deepen our trading relationship, spark economic growth, and create jobs.

Following his interaction with a array of businesses, Huddleston tweeted, "Companies across Kolkata are major investors in the UK, spurring job creation and fostering a solid partnership between Bengal and the UK."

Huddleston also met the Governor of West Bengal Dr C V Ananda Bose. "The UK's relationship with West Bengal continues to go from strength to strength, and an FTA will unlock further opportunities for British and Indian businesses," Huddleston tweeted.

"A huge thank you to the UK team in India who looked after me and organised so many productive meetings and events with ministers and businesses during my trip," he added.
