Indian-origin student shot dead in Philadelphia

In April, a 24-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh named Saiesh Veera was shot dead at a fuel station.

Indian-origin student Jude Chacko was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Philadelphia in a robbery attempt, according to an NDTV report. The 21-year-old hails from Kollam district in Kerala. According to the media, he was attacked while returning from his part-time job on Sunday, May 28, 2023. The victim's parents moved to the US more than 30 years ago from Kerala's Kollam district.

This is not the first instance an Indian-origin has been shot by assailants in the US. In April, a 24-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh named Saiesh Veera was shot dead at a fuel station. The Columbus Police reports revealed that police received a call about Veera being shot at the Shell gas station at 1000 West Broad Street, Franklinton. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:27 am local time, a statement by the ‌Columbus Division of Police – Homicide Unit read.

A report by WION noted that major parts of the city of Philadelphia have become an urban living hellhole. It noted that in January, 23-year-old Devsish Nandepu died when armed robbers shot him at Princeton Park in Chicago.

Meanwhile, Chacko's death was reported on the same day when a mass shooting incident occurred in Hollywood Beach, Florida. According to the media, nine individuals were injured in the incident on Monday, May 29, 2023, in the 1200 block of N Broadwalk.
